The Love Stone

Rose Quartz, the “Stone of Unconditional Love”, “The Romance Stone” and “The Love Stone”, is also known “Hyaline Quartz”. It is believed to have been in use as a love stone since 600 BC. The name comes from its soft rose colour. Rose Quartz is a commonly found crystal in America, Brazil, India, Japan, Madagascar, South Africa and South Dakota.

It is a Silicon Dioxide with Iron or Titanium inclusions of the silicates class of crystals. It comes in various shades of pink and is translucent to opaque in appearance. It is a pink variety of Quartz and thus, has an amplifying effect on other crystals.

Rose Quartz is the go-to crystal for all kinds of love such as love for family, friends, romantic and, of course, self-love. It can also help with emotional healing such as heartbreak from the end of a relationship but also helps to release old negative emotions that can hold you back from moving on with your life.

It may be used during pregnancy to promote bonding and is reputed to ease colic if placed around baby milk or food for a few minutes. It is a perfect crystal for feeling reassured during a crisis and although it is a high energy crystal, it feels very calming and soothing to use. If you wish to attract new love or to add trust and re-commitment to an existing relationship, place a piece of Rose Quartz on your bedside table or in the relationship corner of a room or home.

Legend has it that Rose Quartz was created when Adonis, lover of the Goddess Aphrodite, was attacked by Ares, the God of War, who was disguised in the form of a boar. As Aphrodite rushed to save him she snagged herself on a thorny bush, and it is said that their mingled blood stained the white quartz a pale pink colour.

Rose Quartz is associated with the following Goddesses: Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of Love and Beauty who is also known as Venus, the Roman Goddess of Love, Astarte, the Phoenician Goddess of Fertility, Love and War, who is also said to be the Queen of the Stars. She assists in cases of troubled love and keeps lovers faithful to each other. Then there is Turan, the Etruscan Goddess of Love and Beauty.
