Neutraliser

Shungite “The Neutraliser”, “Stone of Transformation”, “Miracle Stone” and “The Stone of Life”; is also known as “Schungite” in Russia. It was first discovered in the 1700s in the Karelia area of Russia, in a village situated on the shores of Lake Onega called Shun’ga, from where it got its name.

Shungite is not a common crystal and is found solely in the North West of Russia. It consists of 30% Carbon (which forms the building blocks of life), 57% Silicate and the remainder is made up of a mix of Aluminium, Iron and Manganese. It is of the mineraloids class of crystals and comes in various shades of black or metallic grey and is opaque. Shungite has the ability to withstand fire without melting which has resulted in it being classed as a pyro bitumen.

There is another form of Shungite called Noble Shungite, or Silver Shungite, as it is also known, which is made up of at least 94% Carbon. This is a much rarer form of Shungite and is, therefore, considerably more expensive.

Shungite is a unique, black mineral stone, not technically a crystal, believed to be almost two billion years old. In 1992, it was the only mineral to have been scientifically proven to possess “fullerenes,” which are molecules composed almost entirely of carbon with powerful healing qualities. Fullerenes are antioxidants that neutralise free radicals and anything else that is harmful to us.

Shungite conducts electromagnetic and geothermal energy but shields the body from electromagnetic emissions (EMF) caused by electrical equipment such as computers, microwaves, mobile phones, televisions and Wi-Fi routers. Shungite can also absorb negative energy and remove it from a person or a space such as an office. It will replace stress and negative emotions with positive energy, whilst grounding and protecting the user.

In Russia, Shungite has been used for a long time as a water purifier. In 1719, Tsar Peter I (Peter the Great) was known to have visited Karelia to use water that had been infused with the mineral. He established the first Russian spa which was called Martial Waters in Karelia where people could bathe in spring water purified by the Shungite it flows through.

Purifyer

It is said that he made all the soldiers in his army carry a piece of it during military campaigns, to purify water and use on their wounds. If you want to make your own elixir, simply place a cleansed piece of Shungite in water and leave to stand, preferably for 24 hours.

Shungite is not associated with any particular Goddess or Angel.

Shungite is primarily associated with the Base (Root) Chakra (Muladhara), relating to survival and security. Its secondary Chakra is the Earth Star Chakra, the grounding point for the entire chakra system and etheric body. Shungite clears, activates, and aligns all of the chakras whilst clearing and balancing the aura.

In crystal healing, Shungite is said to help with illnesses and symptoms relating to: arthritis, asthma, cardiovascular disease, cell rejuvenation, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), detoxification, free radical and pathogen removal, headaches, immune system strengthening and support, inflammation, insomnia, pain relief, pancreatic conditions, skin problems and viruses.

The fullerenes within it also protect us from the harmful chemicals we are exposed to on a daily basis, like the fluoride and chlorine in our drinking water as well as shielding from harmful electromagnetic frequencies (EMF) from computers, mobile phones, phone masts, TV and Wi-Fi equipment.

Emotionally, Shungite is said to assist with emotional balance, grounding and protection, reducing stress, release of anxiety and negativity. It is a powerful protective stone which shields the wearer from all types of negative energies.

On a spiritual level, it can clear all of the chakras helping them to become balanced. It assists in spiritual development by raising the user’s vibration whilst grounding their energy to the earth and affording them psychic protection.

Shungite is not a traditional, ancient or modern birthstone for any of the Zodiac signs and is not on the anniversary list.

Meditation

Shungite is a perfect crystal for meditating with to ground and protect you particularly through the Earth Star Chakra to Mother Earth. It will help release any emotions such as grudges, guilt or negativity that you may have been holding onto. It is also said to amplify the healing properties for headaches, pain and inflammation if held whilst meditating.

Affirmation: I am protected from all negative energy.

Important to Know

WARNING: It is thought by some that Shungite does not need to be cleansed, but as it is such a powerful cleanser of negative energy, I believe it can only benefit from being cleansed and recharged on a regular basis in order for it to continue its work.

As with all crystals you use regularly, don’t forget to cleanse and recharge it at least once a month.

For crystal healers who use crystals in their work, they should be cleansed after each client to remove any negative energy prior to being used on someone else.
