Transformation & Midwives
Malachite the Stone of Transformation, The Midwife Stone and Stone of Good Fortune, was also known prior to the mid-1600s as Molochitus by the Greeks. It was in use in ancient Egypt as far back as 4000 BC. The name Malachite possibly comes from the Greek word molócha, meaning mallow.
Malachite is a commonly found crystal found in America, Australia, Chile, the Congo, Romania, Russia, South Africa and Zaire. It is a Copper Carbonate Hydroxide of the carbonates class of crystals. It comes in various shades of green with darker or lighter banding and is opaque in appearance. Some pieces of Malachite have markings that resemble the eyes in the tail feathers of a peacock and were therefore called Peacock Stones in Italy where they were used as an amulet of protection against the Evil Eye.
Malachite is a powerful crystal that is useful for absorbing negative energy, especially that related to past traumas and suppressed emotions that are holding you back. It can help you understand where those energy blocks are and draw out old emotional patterns that may be causing you physical problems and/or disease. It can also protect from EMF (electromagnetic field) pollution from items such as TV’s, computers and microwaves.
As with most green crystals, Malachite is a stone of abundance and is said to be good for new business ventures, to bring loyalty in business partnerships and for keeping projects on schedule. In fact, it is reported that the pharaohs lined their headdresses with Malachite in the belief that it would aid them to rule in a wise manner.
It allows you to open your heart and mind to unconditional love, to bring fidelity to relationships and to encourage them to be healthy, based on love and not need. Malachite is reputed to help with fear of heights and flying and is said to be a stone of support for airline workers and miners to protect them from accidents.
Malachite is associated with the Goddess Hathor, the Egyptian Goddess of Joy and Fertility and the Patron of Egyptian miners, and Isis, the Egyptian Goddess of Life. Green-coloured crystals are also associated with Persephone, the Greek Goddess of Spring, who represents the Earth’s new growth.
Healing the Heart
Malachite is associated with Archangel Raphael, the Angel of Healing and Abundance, whose name means God has healed or God heals. It is also one of the crystals dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi where legend has it that wearing Malachite allows you to understand the language of animals.
Malachite is primarily associated with the Heart Chakra (Anahata), relating to love and compassion. Its secondary chakras are the Third Eye or Brow Chakra (Ajna), relating to insight, intuition, awareness and guidance, and the Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura), relating to our identity and our power in this world, where it works on releasing old traumas. It can clear and activate all of the chakras.
In crystal healing, Malachite is said to help with symptoms relating to the following illnesses and areas of the body: arthritis, asthma, back problems, bacterial and viral infections, bone disorders and fractures, cancer, chemotherapy, childbirth, cold sweats, colic, congestion, dental pain, detoxification, dizziness, emphysema, epilepsy, gallstones, headache and migraine relief, healing, hypertension (high blood pressure), immune system strengthening, infertility, inflammation, intestinal problems, joint pain and swelling, liver disorders, lungs, malaria, memory, menstrual cramps, muscle pain or tears, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, pain relief, pancreas, post-surgery healing, radiation, rheumatism, sciatica, scoliosis, skin infections and irritations, toxins, travel sickness, tumours and vertigo. It may also be used to ease the trembling associated with Parkinson’s disease.
Emotionally, Malachite is said to assist with anxiety, calming, comforting, depression, emotional abuse, balance, blackmail and emotional blockages, fear of confrontation, hope, leadership, loyalty, peace, self-confidence, self-worth, shyness and wisdom.
Spiritually, Malachite is said to aid abundance, energy absorption, spiritual protection and transformation.
Malachite is a traditional and modern birthstone for the Zodiac sign of Scorpio (23rd October - 21st November) and a modern birthstone for Capricorn (22nd December - 19th January).
Malachite is on the alternative anniversary list for the 13th anniversary.

Affirmation: I am ready to embrace transformation in my life.
Important to Know
WARNING: Malachite is a toxic crystal and must not be used as an elixir. If it is being used in its natural state place a piece of cloth between it and the skin. Malachite not only absorbs negative energy but also holds it until the crystal is cleared.
As with all crystals you use regularly, don’t forget to cleanse and recharge it at least once a month.
For crystal healers who use crystals in their work, they should be cleansed after each client to remove any negative energy prior to being used on someone else.
PLEASE REMEMBER: Although the powers of crystals and stones are well documented and have been proven to help bring positivity into people's lives, they are never a substitute for medical advice.
