Green Calcite the “Stone of the Mind” and the “Gardeners Friend”; was first named as a mineral by Gaius Plinius Secundus (Pliny the Elder) who died in 79 AD. The name Calcite is taken from both the Latin expression “calx“ and the Greek word “chalix” meaning “lime” as Calcite is found in many limestone deposits. Green Calcite is a common crystal found in Africa, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, India and Mexico.

It is a Calcium Carbonate of the carbonate mineral class of crystals. It comes in various shades of green, although there are several different colours of calcite all with their own metaphysical properties, and is translucent to opaque in appearance depending on the quality of the piece. The green colour comes from the chlorite that is trapped in the carbonate and is what gives it that soapy or waxy feel.

Green Calcite is known as a mind stone as it heightens mental discernment and analysis; so is, therefore, a good crystal to use to help whilst studying. A peaceful crystal, it can be used to look at situations differently, whether good or bad, and also encourage constructive and effective communication by calming fiery emotions. It can help dispel old energy patterns, beliefs and habits that may have been holding you back, helping you to let go of anything that no longer serves you which can sometimes cause energy blockages preventing the flow of wealth into your life.

These rigid ideas can also manifest themselves as bone or joint issues in the body; so as you release them you may find other aches and pains disappearing with them. It is a powerful energy amplifier and cleanser removing stagnant energy from the home and leaving calming energies in its place. It absorbs negative energy and returns it back to the sender having transmuted and amplified it.

Nature & Growth

Green Calcite is a crystal used just like Citrine to be kept in your purse, wallet or till to amplify the energies of wealth and abundance, and, when used to manifest what you want in your life can also help you to trust that what you are manifesting will be received. Along with Moss Agate, it is a useful crystal for gardeners as it is supposed to communicate with plant and nature “spirits” in order to aid plant growth.

Calcite, in general, is associated with the Goddesses Arianrhod, the Welsh Goddess of Stars and Sekhmet, the Egyptian Goddess of War and Healing. Persephone, the Greek Goddess of Spring resonates with green crystals and as Green Calcite is a "growth crystal", a conduit for nature's constant renewal, this crystal sits well with her energies.

Green Calcite is not associated with any particular Angel. However, Archangel Chamuel the Angel of Peace, Comfort and Love resonates with the light green colour of this crystal. His name means “He who sees God” or “He who seeks God”; he is a powerful healer and leader in the Angelic hierarchy and protects the world from fearful and lower energies. Call upon Chamuel for comfort, protection and the intervention in world events.

Green Calcite is primarily associated with the Heart Chakra (Anahata) relating to love and compassion. Its secondary chakra is the Thymus or Higher Heart Chakra – relating to awakening higher consciousness, living your personal truth and doing so with passion and conviction. It works to balance, heal and release stored emotions in order to bring emotional balance; leaving a feeling of hope, peace and serenity.

In crystal healing, Green Calcite is said to help with symptoms relating to the following illnesses and areas of the body: arthritis, bacterial and viral infections, bladder problems, bone disorders, burns, fever, heartburn, immune system strengthening and support, inflammation, joint pain and health, kidney disorders, ligaments, lower blood pressure, lungs, muscle pain or issues, nervous tics, neurosis, pancreatic health, skin infections and irritations, stuttering, temperature regulation, tumours and growths. It is also reported to help the body to assimilate calcium. It embodies the “green ray” which is known to assist in healing health issues such as inflammation and adrenal fatigue.

Emotionally, Green Calcite is said to assist with anxiety, emotional balance, joy, panic attacks, rage diffusing or release, reducing stress, social anxiety, tension and worrying. On a spiritual level, it can aid abundance, balance and communication.

Green Calcite is not a traditional, ancient or modern birthstone; but Calcite, in general, is a modern birthstone for the Zodiac sign of Cancer 21st June to the 22nd July.

Green Calcite is a perfect crystal for meditating with to re-centre yourself if you have been exposed to an excessive amount of Yang energy and to help you achieve a state of calm after a fractious day. It also raises consciousness, links to higher spiritual states and awakens psychic abilities.
