The Stabiliser

Red Jasper, known as the “Supreme Nurturer” and the “Stabiliser”, is a commonly found crystal in Africa, America, Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Madagascar, Peru and Russia. It is a variety of Chalcedony, which is itself a form of quartz, and its colour is typically red to reddish-brown. The darker reddish-brown is because of its high iron content and it is also the most common colour.

Red Jasper is a gentle crystal and works slowly and effectively lending support in times of stress. It is perfect for anyone who struggles with grounding and is overly sensitive to steady themselves. It can be used to help resolve difficult situations too. Jasper, in general, can be traced back in Arabic, Persian, Hebrew, Assyrian, Greek and Latin historical documents and Red Jasper was considered a sacred stone of protection for the ancient civilisations and the shamans of the Native Americans as well as it being considered to stimulate health and re-birth.

Red Jasper honours Cerridwen, the Welsh Goddess of Inspiration and Knowledge, who is the guardian of spiritual transformation and also honours Isis, the Egyptian Goddess of Life and Goddess of the Divine Feminine. In Viking and German legends, it is said that the hilt of the magical sword of Siegfried, the dragon-slayer, was inlaid with Red Jasper to give him courage.

Red Jasper is primarily associated with the Root Chakra (Base Chakra, Muladhara), relating to survival, security and grounding; as it is the chakra closest to the earth, resting at the base of the spine. It also resonates with the Sacral and Earth Star Chakras creating a strong connection to Mother Earth. It is also said to be a powerful aid to raise the Kundalini energy.

Grounding & Protection

In crystal healing, Red Jasper is said to help with symptoms relating to the following illnesses and areas of the body: cancer, circulatory problems, dizziness, libido/sex drive, liver disorders, low blood pressure, menstrual cramps and menstruation, reproductive organs, uterus, stamina, stomach problems/constipation/diarrhoea, temperature regulation, vertigo, vitality and weakness. It is also believed to help with chronic health problems both physical and psychological.

Emotionally, Red Jasper is said to assist with dream recall and interpretation, grounding and protection and raising the Kundalini energy. It brings tranquillity and a sense of wholeness. It is classed as a stone of empowerment, allowing the user to gain the strength to resist emotional domination by others, the courage to overcome domestic violence or bullying and to recover from violent sexual experiences.

Red Jasper is not a traditional birthstone; but is the historical birthstone of March for the Zodiac sign of Aries (21st March - 19th April).

Red Jasper is the natural birthstone for the Zodiac sign of Scorpio (23rd October - 21st November).
